Q. What does session tracking tell me about my site?
A. Traffic patterns show up with session tracking. These patterns of movement through your site can help you to see where visitors leave your site, and what they do while they are on your site. This allows you to rearrange your site and site content to maximize results. Just knowing someone viewed a page doesn't help you evaluate your website's influence on visitors, but session tracking gives you a more 3 dimensional view of your website. The times for each request are indicated, and the network address of visitors is identified to help you make sense of each session.

Q. Don't I need website logs to use SiteMetrix?
A. No! Every time your page is accessed, data is sent to our database. That way, access to ISP collected and distributed log information is not required. This is easier for your ISP, and easier for you! This way you can get critical website information at any time. No waiting or expensive employee time converting raw log information into useable reports.

Q. What does that line of code that I need to add in my pages do?
A. The code added to your web page retrieves a JavaScript file from our server, which executes on the machine making the request from your site. This simple script collects information and then sends the data to our database. When you request your report the data is organized and a web page is dynamically created and sent to you so you can see what activity your site is generating. You have access to your site's information at any time.

Q. What makes your traffic analysis service better?
A. We are leveraging two products that we have developed (ZCSentry and ZCache) to build a service that is lean and super fast. We also provide a week-at-a-glance data, so you can watch weekly trends. SiteMetrix makes it possible for the average website to inexpensively gain access to information that they would normally have to do without. Knowing the what, when, and where about your site can help you figure out the why's.
     Our session tracking, which covers more than a week, can help you determine how long users dwell on a page, which pages they are interested in, and whether they keep coming back. You can also see the network address of the visitor to determine whether it was a visit from a company employee, or whether it came from somewhere else. This kind of detail is more than fancy window dressing, but a powerful information source to help you make sense of what is happening on your site.

Q. What if your SiteMetrix servers go down?
A. Obviously we have a critical need to keep our systems up and we are constantly investing in new and better equipment and software to keep our service quality the best in can be, but the truth is that any site on the internet can be unavailable due to network difficulties out on the world wide web. In the case where our servers are not available, your pages will load properly, and your visitors will not even know there was a problem. The only possible downside would be that you have more traffic than your reports would indicate. We are up better than 99.99% of the time, so any statistical impact should be insignificant.

Q. Are you going to add to the reports you presently offer?
A. Yes. There will be more reports coming, and more graphical presentation of data. Our first criteria has been to build a quality service that is fast and reliable. We have now completed the basic infrastructure to make this service work well. Now we're going to expand the depth of our services to make SiteMetrix the very best service of its kind anywhere!
